Spencer King started Ozark Golf Cars in 2005. His dad always loved golf, and Spencer learned to play the game and love it, too. Back in those days, the family lived in Clinton, MO. There wasn’t a golf cart repair place to be found locally, so Spencer’s dad repaired his own cart…and his neighbors’ and friends’ carts…and finally opened his own shop, King’s Karts. Spencer worked with his dad during his senior year in high school; later, while earning an accounting degree from MSU, he found part time work repairing golf carts at a local shop.
One thing led to another, and Spencer never did get to sit behind an accountant’s desk. In less than a decade he developed an extensive inventory to supply almost any golf car rental in the Ozarks and surrounding area, and became one of the largest Yamaha dealers in SW Missouri. He provides free cart delivery within 75 miles of Ozark, Mo and his crew will travel anywhere in the region to fix a cart.
Spencer has a business philosophy that keeps his customers loyal: if they need him, he’s there. He stays in contact with his customers, and is very much a hands-on owner.
Spencer credits his staff with helping him build and maintain his successful golf car business: Shop Manager Caleb Johnson holds a degree in business from MSU, and has been with Ozark Golf Cars for four years; Sales Manager Mike Hoisington, who has been with the company for a year and has a wealth of knowledge about the market; skilled Mechanic Levy Loyd who has been with the company eight years; and Office Manager Sarah Byrd, who has been with company for nearly a year.
“These folks are some of the most knowledgeable staff people and experience mechanics in the region. They can work on all makes and models of golf cars,” Spencer says.
And the shop just wouldn’t be the same without their mascot, Spencer’s loyal dog, Scarlet.
